Restoration Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential to maximise the longevity of your restoration and the overall lifespan of your handbag or purse.

Store your item in a cool, dry, well-ventilated environment away from direct sunlight. Where applicable, keep the handles upright and, if using a dust bag, ensure there is some airflow to help prevent moisture build-up and fluctuations in humidity.

Place a soft cloth or the protective packaging provided between the handles and the body of the bag (and any other contact points, such as straps) during storage. This will help prevent pressure marks, impressions and colour transfer between adjoining surfaces.

As with all light coloured handbags and accessories, avoid prolonged contact with dark clothing, particularly denim and heavily dyed fabrics, as colour transfer can occur and may be difficult to remove. Likewise, darker bags and accessories can occasionally transfer colour onto lighter clothing. Being mindful of prolonged contact between contrasting colours will help keep both your bag and clothing looking their best.

Inking Restoration

The restored ink finish is highly durable once fully cured. However, like all coated leather finishes, it can be affected over time by prolonged exposure to excessive heat, humidity, pressure or poor storage conditions. To preserve the finish, avoid storing your item in very warm environments, sealed plastic coverings or tightly compressed spaces. Stable temperatures, low humidity and gentle airflow will help maintain the integrity of the finish for many years

Surface Repairs

Surface repairs, including piping, hole and scuff repairs, are cosmetic restorations and will naturally show signs of wear again with continued use. While careful handling will help prolong the life of these repairs, they should not be considered permanent. Where practical, replacing worn leather components rather than repairing them will provide a significantly longer-lasting and more durable result.

Whether restored or not, all handbags and purses should be handled with care. Avoid placing your item on the floor, minimise contact with abrasive surfaces that may cause scuffing, and regularly remove dust and debris using a soft, dry cloth.
